Was give an assignment to have in fot next Tuesday. It consists of havin four swatches of 'yarn' ( any materials knitted together ) and a finished neck piece, using ones own yarn, i.e. I plan on mixing wools together.
Everyone was shown various techniques that will be used throughout the course of fashion, shredding, felting, fancy wool (tying knots in wool and knitting with it to give it more texture).
The assessment also includes varies dyed yarns. Using everyday products, not going out to by fabric dye just yet.
Shredding a bedsheet.
I grabbed an old black t-shirt and dunched it into bleach. I plan on using this to knit into my neck piece. A snood. Or else I;ll attempt to knit wire togother and thread the bleached tshirt through it, creating some type of jewellery.
Dyed the bedsheet with indian ink. And used orange hair dye on another piece, which faded to a peachy shade when rinsed out.

Fashion !!
Began elective no.2 today, Fashion!
The morning was grand and easy going(I expect it will get much more hectic after talking to a few people who undertook it the previous 2 weeks). It consisted of picking shapes that I liked, out of notebooks from semester 1, (which was handy because I had a motebook dedicated to the marks made by music). By break I had my 2 shapes that I planned to work with decided on and had them photo copied and enlarged. After lunch I had a number of the shapes cut out and got the chance to pin them on the manikins. Here I was told to play around with the shapes, play with the shapes on the body, while documenting my movements. I'm really excited about the duration of this elective. I want to go into this feild and hopefully by yhe end I'll still aspire to work in fashion.

Hands in the window.
Had a crit this morning. We were placed in groups of 3 and asked to have a look at each others work so far. I was made aware afterwards that our work isn't to illustrate obviously what one is working on. Positioning ones work in an unusual way or in a different space can add to the subtle quality trying to be achieved.
So I decided to hang the wax hands with wire from the window. I like the 'airy', translucent effect the sunlight gives to the pieces, as it accompanies the fading or deterioration of them.

contextual
Experimenting in the 'Lab'
Up bright and early again this morning and began making a mould from plaster of my right hand and lower arm. I planned on using the mould to create a series of wax moulds, each one get deteriorating more and more, until unrecognisable, 'Fading Away'.
Had a a couple of, not problems, but minor isses.....
Firstly, I found the thrying to peel the wax off the plaster mould wasn't as easy as I a had planned and the fingers breaking caused a little frustration and cost more time. Then, after the 4th attempted the hot wax had softened the plaster and tmy original mould broke.
I decided to show the deterioration through was moulds of orange blocks, that got lighter in colour as they gradually wore away.
.... Must go pop them out of the silicone now!
Here they are.

series of ink in water / 'Spreading'
plaster dominos
Made a seletion of abnormal sized 'dominos' for the line of dominos, then thought I'd just video the five i had made and distorted being knocked over, in order to show a 'worn down' state.
'Exhausted'
Blogger won't allow me at this time to upload the video, it's like 5 secs. long. I'll uploaded it in the morning hopefully.

Tuesday, 15th January THE ARTISTS
We were given a sheet last week, which outlined what will be happening during the coming weeks. On that sheet were names of different sculptors. I think Magdalena Abakanowicz's and in particular Bruce Nauman's work is very interesting and may be quite relevant to my project.
Magdalena Abakanowicz - dancing figures
Bruce Nauman. I found this particular sculpture very appealing. It made me wonder what if we as people connected to each other differently?!
This gesture instead of the shaking of hands.... lol!

Sculpture/ Semester 2, woohoo!!
As semester 2 begins, I begin one of my three electives, Sculpture.
I was a little bit apprehensive about starting, but it's going pretty good.
The 'brief', or guidlines for the two week sculpture project is based around the senses
- Investigate your relationship with your five senses or your vital signs temperature, respiration, pulse and blood pressure )-
[Slightly similar to semester 1's brief, both giving the option to develop and keep moving on with what one was doing before hand or move on completely and totally away from ones previous project.]
The class begun by everyone getting involved and working together to brainstorm, to get ideas flowing for one another. I found it really helpful.
The brain storming finished up with us throwing down verbs, 'to -somethings-', on sheets of paper (which were taken from the words of the topics in the brief). Looking at each sheet, we wrote down the verbs that were most appealing. I was left with - 'to rumour' and to connect.....
So, I came up with a few ideas to try out and see what flows. The girls next to me, Emma and Sophie gave me some really interesting ideas too.
- To essemble dominos with sentences on them and have the words changing as the line travels -I've started to make bigger shaped dominos for the changing in the line to enphasise these distortions in the sentence.
- To record the effect ink would have on water when dropped into it. So a sense of spreading may be given.
Originally, I was concentrating on 'to rumour' (this verb came from the brainstorming sheet of Hearing), thinking about how people 'add on legs' to stories. How one thing/being can start out as plain and as it is and end up distorted or warped even!
However, to connect is now the basis for this particular assignment. I was made aware that, there is more of an allowance to do more, not just narrowing it down to rumours/whispers, but realised that 'to rumour' can easily be incorporated into the connection among people.
After discussing all of the above^ with my second tutor, she directed me into exploring the exhaustion that can occur with vigerous use. I think this will be interesting and also quite fun to explore.

Waiting around
Had nothing to do last night so decided to get out some of the photocopied string marks and make another colláge. Then carve out more of the lino print that I used for the print workshop. Will print onto the colláge today and see what I get. The lino are the marks made by listening to trad. music, so the two will be combined.
