decision time!

Deciding on my finished pieces at the moment. Played around with what I have on paint and photoshop. Gonna play around a bit more, strech my images, make them smaller on an A3 scale and see what works. ( or what I think works! )

Not only am I deciding what works for the final crit of the Viscom elective, but I'm also considering choosing Viscom as my no.1. Tis a serious contender against fashion,( something I've wanted for the past two - three years ). I have put my name down for a meeting with both tutors of the two elective for next Tuesday. Fingers crossed that after have a chat about the courses I'll have my mind made up.

ideas after rendering

solutions - type

after rendering and playing around with my word decoded in different fonts I had come up with a few ides for my finished type for Friday.
One of my tutors suggested that I place the code to my blog, the QR code, in the middle of the word. She suggested this after seeing my illustration of the word decoded where I took the 'O' and had a random QR code in its place. I love the idea and think it really comes together for the whole notion of DECODED..!

http://www.creativeapplications.net/flash/helvetica-face-flash/ Here is a link to a font I came across that I really think would work for my word. Unfortunately I don't know how to save the image and use the letters.

Also was shown a number of well visually communicated images during a talk on Monday and one particular image stood out. It was the top of letters lit up on a large screen, that had the other have shown on a super clean looking, shiney floor. This meant the word became legible.
So I decided to take apart a little mirror I had at home and place it underneath the tops of drawn out letters and photograph each letter as the paper and mirror came together.

I made a very short slideshow of all the images on Pro, thanks to the help of Hannah. Thanks again! It will be posted soon...

Typography-Monday morning

So far I'm really loving typography. Had a talk this morning from one of teh tutors who basically gave the class a general sum up of type. I found it really helpful and got stuck in straight after.

On friday I was looking at typography references, thought the curve stitch and typegami really interesting and also came across a type done from magnets on Clossal.com.

Here are images of what I have so far. What I am currently working on.

Viscom-Typography

After the crit this morning, where I presented two of my ideas, this rough illustration is what I have decided to develop on to illustrate the word decoded. I'm planning on changing the symbols to hyrogliphics for the image to by slightly easier to comprehend. I was also suggest to exclude the pureple outline of the lock. A floating effect might be interesting visually!!

Got the second brief for Viscom too, Typography. Illustrate our word with text, just text.
Researching typography I came across this ice particular one on Colossal.com.

Viscom work

This is what I am working on this morning. We are to have two ideas for our tutors to develop on through to next week.

The drawing competition

LSAD drawing competition 2013 is on next week and the anyone from 1st to 4th year is able to enter up to 3 pieces. They can be anything. Drawing doesn't have to be just paper and pencil, but it can be that all the same. I tried coming up with something for entry into it, so I started drawing out little sketches of things in my bedroom, things that I need and then some of my friends and family. Unfotunately nothing came out of it.... yet!

working on ideas

Ideas/illustrations I have been working on. The first one is a combination of a lock with a symbolic combination that has been 'decoded' by the action of striping. The second is a sketch of a digital code being striped back. And the last two images are of other ideas that came from combining elements from the mindmap.

Decoded

Here are the words I came up with from the word 'decoded'.

We then illustrate our words from the mindmaps with small drawings, thumbnail sketches in colour. After this we combine the images together in order to gather ideas that illustrate the word. Mine being DECODED.

elective number three - Visual Communication

After a slightly humourous start, where I choose a word written by some joker who placed a hand written slip in among the actual typed words, the brainstrom-ing of the word 'decoded' began.
I admit I did struggle a bit, but I think I'm beginning to grasp it a little more and am currently drawing thumbnails to illustrate the words from the mind mapping.
Completed six small drawings and decided to come here, the computer room, to get 'inspired'.

Came across this, it really caught my eye;

A link to a stop motion music video I came across on one of the blogs I follow, while researching artists for the Vis. Com. It was created by Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski.

Knit assessed

Today I set up my desk for presenting the work I had completed for the knit project given last Tuesday week, my snood, dyed hanks and knitted swatches, etc. I like to knit but after taking on the task of kitting that snood, I was almost on the verge of pulling out my afro like mane. Although I wasn't stressed out and had everything organised and ready to rock yesterday, I still feel a slight bit of relief it's done with... for now. ( really did like how knitting with wire turned out though, so I think I'll try some more of that in my spare time ).

After I set up, I carried on working working in my notebook, drawing more designs. I'm really enjoying the design process and at the moment I'm wondering will I enjoy Vis. Com. at all, when I've my heart set on getting fashion. Anyway, that's while away yet, have the final assessment for fashio on Friday to focus on.
