Here are photos I took of the old lavatory attached to the college, from the former Magdalene laundry.

 

 

 

 

Thursday mornings consist of C.C.S classes with a David, our lecturer. It's some what of a history class. At the moment we are finding out and discussing the history of the college. How the building it self used to be a laundry, whee young women would be forced to go to against their will, work for nothing and be treated terribly.

Outside the college canteen, in the hall, hangs a photo of one of the colleges stairways and a photo shopped image of a ghostly figure hovering over tyhe bottom steps. The image has also been put in the negative.

The class were giving the task of capturing an image of the stairs in the college. Here are mine...

 

 

 

 

I took the pictures of the old, original staircase at a distorted angle to mirror the cruelty that comes with the past/history of the old building. The brightness of the digital images was however to show the positive atmosphere of the building at present day, acting as a college where creativity and    individuality are encouraged. I do find that in the first photo of the two, that the brightness actually adds a sense of eiry-ness to the scene. The stairs seems daunting.

Tuesday, 23rd October - Review!!

I had a review of my progress (/progress review) on Tuesday with two of my tutors. It could have gone better. I struggled to talk about my work and my concept and ideas. I think I need to build up my confidence a bit more so I'm able to speak a more fluently about the project.
I was told I need to focus more and that I lack motivation, (which I totally agree with), that my 2D and 3D work could be a lot stronger.

I had been working on a piece in the shape of my head with wire surrounding the mouth, where the shapes were representing the way that I precieve sound visually. I looked at sculptors that make human forms from wire for reference.

I now hope to attempt making a proper/stronger form of the head with the 'perception of sound' jutting forward, outwards at other heads showing expression/ the reaction to the sound. My intention is to give the veiwer a sense of the music/sound once they are among the space the pieces occupy. Giving my sense of space!

Monday, 22nd October / Ceramic Result

I got the ceramic piece, that I worked on last Tuesday, today!!

The colour was a bit intense to me at first but, the more I looked at it the more I was pleased with the results.
Here are some photos of it after I bent back the sides, it was placed in the kiln, dipped in a blue glaze and cooked again.

 

 

 

 

Monday. 22nd October / Studio work

 

 

Today I started adding on thinner wire to the head. I tried to create the shapes in my sketchbook/notebook from my pwn perception of sound.
I was finding it a struggle to get the skinny wire to sit the way I wanted but, I feel that the messy look of the wire is more unusual looking.
