I found this was a a really useful exercise to do before getting stuck in to doing pieces with the clay. It allowed me to gather my idea and made my aware of what would be the best way to transfer it when I eventually started on the clay.
In my notebook I had drawn my three faces. Two underneath a shower head wrapped in banjo strings, singing and the other was in the top left hand corner with wave like pen marks, depicting the sound coming from the singers mouth.
Here is how they translated using the ink and bambo stick and afterwards i used the edge of some cardboard amd a brush with the black ink.
I was a bit apprehensive at the beginning when giving the blank sheet but, shortly got really into it and found it enjoyable.
These marks are to protrait my perception of what music is like visually.
When I was confident enough to give it a try on clay, I began using bits of wood and pressed them into the wet clay to make marks similar to those using the ink.
Towards the end I used my fingers for more definition.
I tried to incorporate both of 'the markings of sounds' into the piece.
I bent back all the sides of the slab of clay to give it more of a 'flow-y' sense.
And it has now been placed in the kiln for firing (to be cooked). Kieran will have them out by Monday, as he is going to put a blue glaze on all out pieces on Friday. I will let you see how it goes.....
